Marble is by far one of my favourite materials as an alternative to classic ceramic tiles. I love its veins and the effect of nuances that are always different.
A room clad in marble has always stood for elegance and brightness. Allowing for endless possibilities of application, the same material can be used for virtually any bathroom item: floors, walls, bathtub, washbasin and accessories, etc.
One of my favourite marble combinations? The black and white one.
An essential bathroom, with a Nordic style, can only be characterised by black and white details, embellished by the marble’s lively textures. Whether it consists of tone-on-tone elements or a fashionable terrazzo effect, you can have fun designing your bathroom by inserting the marble where you prefer.
The marble floor can become one with the cladding and the washbasin, and then stop on the black of a wall that creates an elegant box effect, continuing up to the ceiling. Why not characterise the walk-in shower instead by covering the tray and walls with the terrazzo effect? Remember, to make it stand out as the key player, the rest of the room must be clearly distinct, in white or in black.
And what if the budget is not very high? Use marble for the splashback, but play with the accessories: contrasting black taps or washbasin, a designer mirror and a few carefully selected furnishing accessories.
If you are afraid that the Nordic style combined with the marble will be too cold, you can keep the black and white mood by playing with fabrics (curtains and towels) and furnishing the room with vintage accessories, jars and old pharmacy containers, which will be perfect if used as a toothbrush holder or for the cotton pads.
