Studiopepe, when research meets creativity
Who is Studiopepe? Tell us something about yourselves.
We are a design studio, focusing on research with a multidisciplinary approach: we deal with design (interior, product and limited edition) and creative consulting (trend book, colour concept, styling project). Our design philosophy is multi-layered and eclectic. Art, installations, analysis of formal archetypes, experimentation on materials and communication between extremes are some of the themes explored by the Studio.
In the design sector, as in everything in which we express our personality, how important are inspiration and rationality?
Our philosophy is based on a conceptual approach inspired by the unexpected, with a background of visions and iconographies. We create new aesthetics where objects are connected to each other using different codes, therefore rationality, but also unexpected inspirations.
Aesthetics and function: a classic combination when it comes to design. Which of these does Studiopepe go for?
Aesthetics and beauty are not only about shapes, they are about moral attitude, and they have to create an emotion, joy, interest or something. In this way, it is hard to find an aesthetic concept without function, even if in our case, beauty always comes first.
“This is by Studiopepe”: this means being recognisable. Do you think you have a stylistic feature that makes your objects absolutely distinctive?
Studiopepe’s projects stand out for their strong iconographic identity based on experimentation, on constant research into colour and materials, and on contamination between the different expressions of the contemporary world in order to pursue a special result that respects each customer’s individuality.
Working together is often a source of inspiration: how do you handle the fact that there are two of you, in other words, who does what?
Everyone in the team has a specific role and oversees different projects but it is essential for them to be in line with Studiopepe’s stylistic approach. As co-founders of the studio, Chiara and Arianna are in charge of the entire creative direction of each project.
As for your interior design projects, for example in private homes, how much input do you have and how much influence does the customer have in them?
It is always a matter of interplay and it is essential to respect the customer’s needs at all times but also to create something that reflects our style and identity.
“Creativity”: a word that is a bit vague… What would you say it is?
